Accessibilità

Translations: es it

Hackmeeting is a self-managed place and community: everything you will find is built with scarcity of means, usually by recovering abandoned structures and adjusting them to our needs. We tried to make Hackmeeting the most accessible as we could, but there are surely many things that we did wrong and things we have to get better at. Be patient and help us by reporting us what’s wrong, so that it can be better next year!

The details are still being finalized; information on accessibility may be added later.

The place

The CSA NextEmerson is in via di Bellagio 15, Firenze, Italia, Firenze, Italy.

External entrances

The space can be accessed via various entrances:

Main gate

A large sliding gate leads to a very spacious parking lot. Once inside the parking lot, you can enter the main door immediately (there are no steps, and the door is very wide), or continue to the end until you find the door of the Palestra Popolare Sanpietrino gym (again, there are no steps and the entrance is very wide).

Pedestrian gate

If for some reason you find the main gate closed, you will find the pedestrian gate open a little further down the road. It is a smaller gate, but wide enough to allow wheelchairs to pass through. There are no steps, but the asphalt surface is a little uneven.

The entrance to Tango Sognato and Quilombo

Continuing along Via di Bellagio, you come to another large gate, which leads to another smaller parking lot. From here you can access Quilombo, a space that is open-air in summer, with a dance floor, tables, and a cinema area, and which moves indoors when it gets cold. Inside, you enter through a double door with a small step.

Access to the interior spaces

NextEmerson, as we mentioned, was an old factory. It therefore consists of two large industrial warehouses, divided into various rooms, and two two-story buildings. Unfortunately, access to the two buildings is only via fairly steep staircases, as there are no elevators. If you need to access these spaces and are having difficulty, please ask at the entrance and we will find a solution together. Inside the main building, you will find: a kitchen, hacklab, rehearsal room and recording studio, library, and guest quarters. Inside the Tango building, we are setting up a sewing workshop. Inside the Tango building, we are setting up a sewing workshop. Except for the buildings, all other areas are free of steps or obstacles, except for temporary ones that may be created by our unpunished disorder. The garden has an entrance and concrete areas, as well as grassy areas. The ground can be a bit uneven.

Sleeping

During Hackmeeting, there will be a large area in the garden where you can pitch a tent or hang a hammock. In an adjacent area, you can also park campers/vans. For those who don’t like sleeping outdoors, there will be another large indoor area where you can sleep in a tent or with just a sleeping pad and sleeping bag. All these areas are accessible for people with reduced mobility and have relatively close access to a bathroom with sufficiently wide doors.

Bathrooms

Keeping the toilets clean is a key aspect of self-management. We are extremely proud of our new self-built accessible bathroom. Inside NextEmerson there are 7 toilets and 2 urinals. Inside the main warehouse, we have built an accessible and very comfortable bathroom. To access it, you must ask for the key at the bar. Adjacent to this bathroom are two other squat toilets with narrow doors and two urinals. There is a small sink in front of the urinals. Two other bathrooms are located on the top floor of each building, accessible only by stairs. In the Tango and Quilombo areas, there are two comfortable bathrooms with wide entrances. All bathrooms at NextEmerson are gender neutral. We have three showers, including changing rooms. They are located near the gym and need to be activated before use. You will find them active if you come during gym hours.

Weather

We admit it: there is only about one month a year when NextEmerson is comfortable. If you don’t happen to visit during that month, you could easily suffer from extreme heat or freezing cold.During the hot months, mosquitoes are also a nuisance. But you will always find chemical spray available on site to keep them away from your skin. During the summer, outdoor activities may involve exposure to the sun, but both the garden and the Quilombo space have shaded areas where you can find shelter.

Language and translations

Contributions in other languages are not only accepted, but appreciated! Hackmeeting (still) hasn’t a proper translation system, but you’ll find a bunch of people to ask to do translations when needed.

Assistance dogs

If you have a dog, it is welcome. It will find water and probably other dogs to play with. If the latter is a problem, please let us know at the entrance and we will try to limit any intrusiveness from other dogs.
